How do they work? What do they do?Updated a year ago

How do they work?

Riff Raff sleep toys have been designed to be used as a toy to promote sleep. Through the use of sound, comfort and routine these toys support babies and toddlers in falling asleep calmly and resettling.

My Features

  • Made from ultra-soft polyester I am machine washable & tumble dry-able: I will be loved a lot. Unzip my head, remove my soundbox and wash whenever you need. Wash after wash I come up as fluffy and loveable as ever.
  • My right ear plays white noise with heartbeat. Learn about the science of white noise and why it is important to babies here
  • My left ear plays the MAGICAL Riff Raff Baby lullaby
  • I have two volume and playback settings (20 min & 40 min setting)
  • I have been designed with safety in mind. Use the clever velcro strap on my paw, to secure me to cribs, bassinets and car seats. This way I stay safe where you want me for safe sleeping.
  • Pacifier/ Binky holder. As I grow with your bub, my security strap holds a pacifier. No more lost pacifiers in the night yay!

The blanket of the toy measures 12 1/2 inches x 12 1/2 inches and the head approximately 5 inches in diameter.

We recommend the 20 minute setting on Lullaby to really start building that positive sleep association. The tune is deliberately designed to stop in the heaviest part of a babies sleep cycle which is 15-25 minutes after they fall asleep. The 40 minute setting is ideal for toddlers that take an average of 30 minutes to settle.

Lullaby or White noise? Which is best? And what age do you swap to the lullaby?

It is really personal preference but the key to long lasting positive attachment between your Riff Raff and your Little One is the lullaby. It is for this reason we recommend introducing the lullaby as early as possible. The white noise can be very helpful for in cot/pram settling during a restless period or if having trouble falling asleep but we recommend using the lullaby for evening cuddles and a peaceful bedtime routine from birth where possible.

A note on safety

We have been given safety approval under AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2002 (Toys for children up to and including 36 months of age, with an intended age from 0+)

For more information about how to introduce at different ages please see this blog piece.
